Frequently Asked Questions – Evolve Orlando Therapy

How long does therapy take to work?

This depends on many factors, including what types of issues you are facing, what your background has been and the amount of changes you desire to make in your life. The choice is truly yours; come for a few focused visits to address a small challenge in your life, or commit to a longer course of therapy to address negative patterns and habits that have been years in the making.

What type of therapy approach do you use?

My primary objective is to establish a supportive and positive environment within the therapy sessions where you can feel comfortable expressing your inner-most thoughts and concerns. I use an intentionally eclectic approach meaning that all treatment is custom designed for you and the specific challenges you are facing. I am trained in a variety of techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, psychoanalysis, positive psychology techniques, grief techniques, nutrition and health coaching, strengths based therapy, self-care programs and mindfulness based approaches. Your treatment will be tailored to your specific concerns and I typically pull ideas from many different approaches to offer you the best chance for making the changes you desire.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

I am happy to provide a receipt for any services but I do not bill insurance directly. I have a few reasons for that, and I can share with you that your privacy and confidentiality is at the top of the list. I prefer to work directly with you without the influence of a third party, which often dictates limitations and regulations that have no place in personal therapy, in my opinion.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payments may be made via cash, check or any major credit card. Fees are typically collected at the end of each session.

Why are weekly sessions usually recommended?

We typically begin therapy with weekly sessions in order to establish a strong and trusting rapport, so you can feel comfortable digging into your deepest concerns. It has been my experience that weekly visits are the best recommendation to create momentum that leads to true change in your life outside of the therapy room. However, if weekly visits do not work for you, we can certainly discuss your situation and accommodate your needs.

What if I’m not sure about coming to therapy?

Feeling ambivalent and unsure about therapy is completely normal, especially if you have never had therapy before in your life. Divulging private information to someone you barely know can be unsettling and scary; however, it is necessary if you truly want things to change. If you are unsure, I encourage you to take advantage of my complimentary phone consultation to discuss your concerns and uncertainty about the process.   There is no obligation to set up an appointment following the phone consult, and I will be happy to address your concerns to the best of my abilities.

I feel desperate to get help, but I don’t think I can afford it.

In consideration of the stressors you are dealing with, you truly must ask yourself if you can afford NOT to do this for yourself right now. What will the cost be of continuing to live in the situation that is causing you distress? If you are at your wits end with the problems in your life, delaying addressing them typically just worsens the problem. It is my opinion that seeking out therapy is a sign of great strength and hope that things can get better. I do have limited availability in my practice to work on a sliding scale. If my fee is not affordable for you, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your financial situation or I will be happy to provide you with a more cost-effective referral so that you are able to get the help you need.

Does therapy really work?

It has been my experience that therapy can provide a powerfully transformative experience for those who are ready to commit to the process. I seek to empower you and assist you with gaining valuable insights skills that will serve you well for the rest of your life.
